Our Mission
The Mission of Ellison’s Mountain Heritage Nursery is to provide plants to customers that are interested in the health and environmental benefits of growing their own heritage plants and to preserve plants that are disappearing from our landscape for future generations.

About Steve Ellison
- Born on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1967
- Grew up on the family farm, from 1973 to 1990 – Skills cultivated in grafting and harvesting fruit trees, trimming trees, gardening, canning, hay production, beef cattle, hogs, chickens, cutting timber, operating farm equipment, mechanic work, carpentry, hunting, fishing, trapping
- Attended and graduated from the last two room elementary school in WV 1973 to 1979
- Attended and graduated from Spanishburg High School 1979 to 1985 - A member of Future Farmers of America, Future Business Leaders of America, and Who’s Who Among American High School Students
- Attended Concord College and Bluefield State College 1985 to 1989
- Joined the US Army Reserves in 1988
- Transferred to the US Army 1990 to 1993, Honor Graduate from Surveying School, and served as unit’s armorer twice during career.
- Married Amy Denise Pennington of Princeton in 1990
- First child of 4, born in 1992 while stationed in Germany
- Held multiple civilian jobs from 1993 to 2002
- Increased income by selling home grown produce at the Mercer County Tail Gate Market 1993 to 2000, called the best salesman of the market
- Recruited into a plant growing research project in 1993, by the Mercer County Extension Agent
- Received Electrical Contractor’s License in 2002 and was self-employed until 2008
- Worked as a Veterans Representative for Work Force WV from 2008 to 2016
- Moved into Grandparent’s farmhouse in 2010
- Became a Career Readiness Counselor working for contractors from 2016 to the present
- Received 4 trophies at the Mercer County Fair for the most points scored in canned goods and garden produce between 2014 to 2018
- Last child graduated from homeschooling in 2018, all have attended or are attending college
- At present, looking for ways to increase income and promote the importance of heritage
